Departmental Positions
Faculty Position in Fermentation Scale-Up & Process Research
NOW ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS
The Department of Biology invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track faculty position in Fermentation Scale-up and Process Research in our Ph.D. programs, pending budgetary approval. A Ph.D. or its equivalent is required by the start of the Fall 2010 academic year. This successful applicant is expected to contribute to the continued development of the vaccine and protein products in the Applied & Environmental Group within the Biology Department, promoting a functional understanding using microbial platforms for making and producing vaccines, enzymes, and proteins but with a focus on bacterial derived recombinant proteins. Interest areas could include, but are not restricted to, fermentation scale-up, recovery and purification of proteins, and process development. An understanding of cGMP and regulatory constraints is important. The Department has excellent research core facilities and is expanding its strong basic and translational research programs as related to scale-up and process research for microbially produced vaccines and proteins through collaborative research and interactions with the Georgia Research Alliance and the Department of Defense. Applicants at the Assistant Professor level are expected to demonstrate potential for establishing an independent, externally funded research program, while applicants at the Associate/Full Professor levels should have an established and funded program or should provide evidence of an established reputation and the potential for an externally funded research program. The successful applicant will be expected to direct graduate student research, and instruct upper level undergraduate and graduate courses. Review of applications will start in October, 2009, and continue until the position is filled.
An application letter along with a CV, 3 – 5 reprints, statements of research interests/goals and teaching philosophy along with three recommendation letters should be sent to: biolkw@langate.gsu.edu or mailed to:

Faculty Position in Comparative/Integrative Physiology in the Department of Biology
NOT ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS
The Department of Biology invites applications for an anti-cipated tenure-track faculty position in Comparative / Integrative / Organismal Physiology in our Ph.D. programs, pending budgetary approval. A MD or Ph.D. or its equivalent is required by the start of the Fall 2010 academic year. The research interests of current faculty and other related Biology Ph.D. programs can be found at http://biology.gsu.edu. This successful applicant is expected to contribute to the continued development of organismal biology within the Biology Department, promoting a functional understanding at multiple levels of analysis, such as molecular, genetic, cellular, and systems biology, but with a focus on the impact for the whole organism. Interest areas could include, but are not restricted to evolutionary/comparative physiology, seasonal reproduction, body temperature regulation and energy balance. Models that also have applicability to clinically significant health issues, such as obesity and diabetes are welcomed. The Department has excellent research core facilities and is developing strong basic and translational research programs in disease-related areas through collaborative research and interactions with the Georgia Research Alliance and Georgia Cancer Coalition. Applicants at the Assistant Professor level are expected to demonstrate potential for establishing an independent, externally funded research program, while applicants at the Associate/Full Professor levels should provide evidence of an established, externally funded research program. The successful applicant will be expected to direct graduate student research, and instruct upper level undergraduate and graduate courses with particular emphasis on critical thinking through writing.
