CNCC now Center for Neuromics
The Center for Neural Communication and Computation has been renamed the Center for Neuromics to reflect a new sharper focus for the activities of the center. The Center for Neuromics (http://biology.gsu.edu/neuromics) is the first center in the country dedicated to the field of Neuromics. Just as Genomics is the cataloging of genes and their interactions, Neuromics is the cataloging of neurons and their interactions. Neurons are the basic unit of the brain and nervous system, yet currently our knowledge about how to categorize these specialized cells is still incomplete. New molecular and computational methods hold out the promise of giving us a cellular level wiring diagram for the brain. The director of the Center for Neuromics is Dr. Paul S. Katz. He will be teaching a graduate topics course on Neuromics in the Spring semester. The Center for Neuromics will be sponsoring seminars and meeting related to Neuromics. It will also provide students and post-docs with travel and research awards for research related to Neuromics.
