Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Students pursuing a Ph.D. are interested in advanced biological research usually leading to a research and/or teaching career at a university or in industry.

Research Areas

There are four different Ph.D. programs that correspond to the four research areas of the department. Students can choose one of these areas based on their interests.

Master of Science (MS)

Students can earn an MS degree in Biology as a stepping stone to a career in the biosciences or in preparation for a further professional degree. We offer concentrations in Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Cellular Molecular Biology & Physiology, Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry and Neurobiology and Behavior and an interdepartmental concentration in
Bioinformatics.

Non-degree seeking

We have a Non-Degree Program in graduate studies for students interested in taking extra courses. We also offer a Transient Student Program for students who are in a graduate degree program elsewhere in the United States and need to study at Georgia State for a limited period.
