Classroom Activities
Center for Behavioral Neuroscience educators at Georgia State University have developed an array of neuroscience resources for science teachers to use in the classroom including:
• Diversity and Adaptations in the Brain
This interactive neuroscience lesson uses models and specimens from the CBN Lending Library (see pg. 6) to demonstrate how an animal's brain size and shape correlates to function. The presentation includes an opportunity for students to hypothesize about the reasons for differences in the brains of cats and dogs, dolphins and manatees, and chimpanzees and humans, among other animals. At the end of the lesson, students construct brains of imaginary animals out of Play-Doh to demonstrate their understanding of brain physiology. The exercise is especially well suited to middle school students. CBN educators are available on a limited schedule to demonstrate this activity in the classroom.
