Georgia State University is located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia;
the city that hosted the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, and which
is rapidly becoming the cultural center of the South. For entertainment
purposes, there is the High
Museum of Art, the Memorial Arts Center, the
Fox Theater, the Atlanta
Ballet and Atlanta
Symphony Orchestra, as well as hundreds of unique restaurants
in Atlanta. Atlanta's latest attraction, Underground
Atlanta, is only two blocks from GSU.
Around the city and within an hour's driving distance are Stone
Mountain and several large lakes for swimming and water-skiing.
The climate in Atlanta is a mix of warm and cool temperatures, with
a mean July temperature of 73.4oF (23oC) and a mean January temperature
of 50oF (10oC).
The city is served by a rapid transit system, MARTA,
that provides access to the far reaches of the metro area; including
Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport and outlying residential
areas. GSU now provides campus housing in the "olympic village";
which housed the olympic athletes during the recent olympic games.
