Neurobiology and Behavior (NB)
Overview
The Neurobiology and Behavior research group at Georgia State University
is addressing questions related to the functioning, development,
and anatomy of the nervous system using a range of state-of-the-art
techniques. Neuroscience is a growing field and our understanding
of how the brain works is blossoming.
At Georgia State, we approach neuroscience with a diverse range
of invertebrate and mammalian model systems used in research on
neural development, sensory processing, motor systems integration,
computational neuroscience, single channel physiology, and neuroendocrinology. This approach is embodied by the new Brains & Behavior initiative that brings together researchers in a variety of different departments who are all interested in neuroscience.
A major component of the research effort in Neuroscience involves
the Center
for Behavioral Neuroscience (CBN), an NSF-funded Science and
Technology Center based out of Georgia State. It is a consortium
of researchers at all the major Atlanta area universities working
on the neurobiology of social behavior.
There is also a strong group of neuroscientists interested in Neural
Circuits and Computation. The Center
for Neuromics promotes research on
the development, function, and computational properties of neuronal
circuits.
Close ties are maintained to Neuroscientists in the Psychology
Department and in other departments through a Neuroscience
Graduate Group and there is a very active neuroscience community
in Atlanta that is brought together by the Atlanta
Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience.
