Molecular Cell Biology

A Research Scientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Yuan Liu, Department of Biology, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA. This position is for an individual who has PhD degree in Immunology and/or microbial pathogenesis. The projects involve studying inflammatory response during fungus infection.  The individual should be able to carry out research projects on a semi-independent basis. He/she should design and evaluate experiments, produce and analyze research data, and prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. He/she will also train new lab research students and members.

Applicants should send a CV, cover letter stating career interests and names and contact information of three (3) references to: Yuan Liu at yliu@gsu.edu

Molecular Cell Biology

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Ritu Aneja, Department of Biology, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA. This is an entry-level position for an individual with less than 2 years post-graduate experience in which the individual will be responsible for conducting independent research projects.  Ongoing projects focus on 1) Role and functional significance of centrosome amplification and clustering pathways in cancer development and progression. 2) Identify novel proteins that can be used as biomarkers for the diagnosis and staging of malignant disease, and at the same time, act as molecular targets for chemotherapeutic approaches and 3) Developing novel approaches to treat cancer using plant derived compounds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct active lab research on a semi-independent basis; design and evaluate experiments; develop new ideas that promote current research; prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator; clearly and concisely communicate research findings to peers (both written and oral); bring new expertise to the research program, particularly molecular biology.

Assist in designing experimental protocols for lab personnel and maintaining laboratory.

Keep meticulous records of all experiments performed and write interpretations of data obtained.

Assist in the training of students.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of cancer and molecular biology

Experience with basic cell biology techniques (e.g., cell culture, cell proliferation assays, apoptosis assays)

Experience with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cloning, immunoprecipitation, Western blot)

Experience with in vivo tumor models (e.g., cell implantation, drug dosing, tumor harvest).

Education:

Ph.D. in fields related to the biomedical sciences

Applicants should send a CV, cover letter stating career interests and names and contact information of three (3) references to: Ritu Aneja at raneja@gsu.edu
