- Biography
I am a Principal Senior Lecturer at Georgia State University (GSU) in the Biology Department. While my primary role is instruction, I also oversee undergraduate internships and occasional research projects in the fields of ecology and plant biology. I received my Ph.D from the Odum School of Ecology with a focus in conservation and sustainable development and teach courses related to these fields as well as general biology. I am strongly invested in signature experience courses with place-based learning, such as the Natural Environments of Georgia course. I have worked on conservation and restoration projects as far afield as Córdoba, Argentina in my graduate research to island ecology on St. John in the US Virgin Islands and more locally here in Atlanta, Georgia.
I work with many faculty and student groups to promote ecological research and sustainability initiatives on campus and in local communities as well as developing inquiry-based biological and ecological curricula. I am a community coordinator and certified trainer for the Georgia Adopt a Stream program and enjoy participating in local stream monitoring and other ecological/educational outreach programs.
I also enjoy running, hiking, and snorkeling in the ecosystems I study.
